The Client.

Kids After Hours (KAH) is one of the biggest after school care providers in Maryland. KAH provides summer camps and school-year programs to thousands of families across Maryland. They operate in locations throughout Montgomery and Carroll counties, offering activities that range from science and skate camps to drop-in childcare before and after school.

The Challenge.

Each year, Kids After Hours processes enrollments for thousands of children. For each child, they must track information such as age, emergency contact details, and special needs such as allergies or medications. Additionally, parents must be able to enroll their children in programs, register for the waitlist when programs are full, and handle payment and billing details both before and after enrollment. The client wanted Simpalm to create a faster and more flexible interface for families to manage their participation in Kids After Hours activities, while retaining their existing solutions for storing data and taking attendance.

The Solution.

The solution which most closely matched the client’s needs was a web application. This would provide KAH with a robust, scalable interface for parents to manage enrollments and payment, while also providing parents with a streamlined experience, allowing them to log in via their web browser with no additional setup.

The web application allows families to create an account, enter information on their children, and browse KAH activities to enroll in. Once they have chosen a program, the parent can add it to their cart and check out. This provides a streamlined onboarding process for both new and returning customers.

The Impact.

1. More customized features in the app compared to earlier off the shelf solutions.
2. Parents can perform all the features in the web app, so manual work of the staff has reduced by 20%
3. Parents can register for Pop up programs and summer camp in the web app, which has improved the customer experience for these work flows.
